From Nabi.Wiki
Revision as of 03:46, 4 February 2024 by InterplanetarySailor (talk | contribs) (Added citation)

He was the great-grandfather of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. His actual name was ‘Amr according to Imam Mālik and Imam Shāfi’ee. The name Hāshim means a crusher, and he received this name because during a severe drought in Makkah he fed its inhabitants with bread crushed into gravy (this dish is known as Thareed). He fed the inhabitants of Makkah like this on a number of occasions.
